I'd eaten there once before and had a great time with some of my best girlfriends; we'd treated ourselves to Prosecco, crab & avocado bruschetta, chocolate brownies and Bellinis...yum. I was very excited to return.
So off we went, and we were delighted with the wonderful service from the second we walked in. It didn't take long for my Tom Collins to arrive.
For those of you who haven't sampled one in a while, it's a very smooth and sophisticated combination of gin, lemon, sugar syrup and soda. It went down a treat...
Next up came some gorgeous 'samplers' for us both; a dainty cup filled with tasty spring pea soup. With some fresh ricotta cheese crumbled on top, and some crunchy grissini on the side, it was a great way to start the meal.
For my starter, I went for something I wouldn't usually order; a four cheese bruschetta, made with parmesan, pecorino, ricotta, and gorgonzola cheeses, and finished off with slices of pear, walnuts, and chicory. I must say, the dish was very cheesy.
It was a good dish, but not quite for me - I think it was the gorgonzola that did it!
My main course on the other hand was oh so heavenly... Fillet of hake baked in a paper bag, with a selection of olives, tomatoes, and courgette, served with crispy gnocchi.
Wow. Just wow. The gnocchi were possibly one of the yummiest things I have ever eaten! Beautifully crispy on the outside so they gave a satisfying crunch as you bit into one.
Without a shadow of a doubt, I would eat at Jamie's Italian again. And again, and again... The food is of a very high quality, using delicious ingredients and much more exciting recipes than their competitors - that topped off with brilliant service is what will make me go back.
Did I mention that I liked the gnocchi?
